I found that giving the bb8 robot a command with a linear velocity in x works but a command results in no movement. I don't see any reason this wouldn't work. This is for exercise 3.4.

Yes, that's right, the coordinates are 3-dimensional and not the regular 2D x-y plane. "x" represents positive forward movement and "-x" represents backward movement, all in the horizontal plane. The 'y' axis is for moving up and down the vertical plane. Not sure which course you are talking about here, but I suppose that robot is not configured for up/down movement.
